This reminds me of the single funniest comic I've ever read--"Captain Cadaver", by Gahan Wilson. (I believe it was in a National Lampoon, some 25 years ago.) Since I can't find it on the web (pity), I'll spoil the surprise:

In the near future, the pervasive use of food preservatives leads to corpses that never decompose. To deal with the... clutter, we start making furniture and household items out of the dearly departed (still quite recognizable, just bent and tied into useful shapes). The Cap'n is a kiddie show host who teaches us all to make the best of it, and laugh a little too.
