North Carolina State University's Information Technology Division seeks a
High Performance Computing Analyst. This position will be instrumental in
building and maintaining high performance computing systems at NC State in
the areas of cluster-based and grid-based computing. This position will
interact with the NC State research faculty to advance and further their
advanced computing needs; with the NC State operational staff in exploring
and providing state-of-the art as well as best-practices high performance
computational support to the NC State research community; and with high
performance computing counterparts and operations in RTP, at UNC-Chapel
Hill, Duke, and other universities of the UNC system to further high
performance computing in the region and the State. This position will be
responsible for the system configuration and administration as well as
exploring the possibilities of integrating high performance
computing systems into the existing campus computing infrastructure.
QUALIFICATIONS: Successful candidates will have an MS in computer science or
some area of computational science, with demonstrated hands-on expertise in
the field of scientific and high performance computing, including
cluster-based computing and grid-based computing and networking; or a BS in
computer science or some area of computational science and at least six
years of experience and demonstrated hands-on expertise in the field of
scientific and high performance computing, including cluster-based and
grid-based computing and networking. Candidates are expected to have 1)
strong experimental and theoretical interests in the areas of high
performance research computing and education and 2) a strong understanding
of and experience with high performance computational applications and the
set-up, tuning and maintenance of high performance cluster and storage
facilities. Experience in system configuration and administration as well as
benchmarking/performance evaluation of high performance computing systems
and cluster-based systems is a prerequisite. The ability to recognize
software optimization of various systems will be needed to enhance hardware
performance. Experience with distributed files systems such as AFS will be
helpful.

Primary duties will include installation and maintenance of high performance
applications, converting parallel processing code to cluster-based code, as
well as code optimization.
