Can someone tell me hte URL to the site that list virus hoaxes.
I just got an alarmist email from a friend and I want to confirm it before I pass it on.

Has anyone got "REAL" information on the "A Virtual Card" and the "A Flower For You", virus"?

Thanks in advance!
Steve S.

Hi

My husband is interested in buying a PC for home use. Basically he wants
the most options for the least amount and is not attached to any
brand. Any recommendations for places online or in the Triangle to buy one
would be very much appreciated. We know where to buy in Silicon Valley,
but alas we are not there.

Thanks

Saundra

If you're building a PC yourself, and want to pick and choose parts,
and want to be able to do it in a brick and mortar venue, I recommend
Stay Online. Their site is awful, but has their store locations at
the very least. They were selling useful PC/Networking tech when the
idiots at Best Buy still thought there were only two kinds of "computer
cables": serial and longer serial. :) Oh, yeah, they still think that.

If you don't want to build your own, why not just buy online?

At UNC we frequently purchased upgrade computer parts from Intrex
(www.intrex.com) in Chapel Hill and found their prices to be competitive
with the Internet. I believe they have stores in Durham and Raleigh too.
They do on-site service for a fee.

I second the Intrex recommendation.

I purchased all of the components to build a Linux box there last year. The
prices were competitive and the sales help (in Durham) was great.

I also just got them to give me prices on some pre-built boxes for us to use
for testing, they seemed pretty good. It would cost me almost as much to
build them myself.

If your husband has any desire at all to build a system from scratch I
highly recommend the experience. ;-)

I came across this when I was looking for cheap boxes. If you really want to
keep the cost cost down and don't mind installing a few things yourself you
might want to look into it:

http://cgi6.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewListedItems&userid=pasthelp&in
clude=0&since=-1&sort=2&rows=25

Seems the motherboards are the weak link in these systems but the guy has
good feedback and also sells them direct at:

http://www.ckcomputerstore.com/

Just to clarify - I have no experience with computers built by this person.
If I were buying a new computer I'd spend a bit more and go with Intrex:

Saundra,

If your husband is looking to build from scratch the place I goto to check
prices across the country is www.pricewatch.com.

They watch prices (obviously) on systems as well as components from vendors
across the country. There is also a place in Raleigh I've bought components
from called www.microbarn.com. It is rare that you will find a lower price
than on pricewatch.com.

Compaq has an online store where they sell/auction refurbished and
overstock systems. There are some really good deals to be found here.
