Hey,

had a great web-dev meeting on Thursday with 20 people
in attendance! Many issues concerning the future of
Internetworkers were raised.

I'd like to propose that we have an open town hall meeting
on February 22 to address the future of Internetworkers. I
will need someone to volunteer a meeting site and also RSVPs
should come to me so that I can estimate the size.

The purpose of the meeting will be to think about Internetworkers
as a group, examine some ideas about new projects, and generally
discuss what we want to be. I'm also especially interested in
creating some kind of decision making process... anti-structure
people, fear not! A decision making process could be used to
decide that structure is bad, and even that no more decisions ever
need to be made.

I fear that Internetworkers can't continue it's maturity without
a bare minimum of formalism. We've always worked on the model that
things get done because people do them, but the kind of ideas
that are coming to the table now are such that they only can be
pursued in light of broad-based support and approval. I also worry
that too many ideas are shot down by loud voices of discouragement,
and that this kills the possibility that an individual will continue
to explore the ideas in their own free time. I think that a voting
mechanism can be a way to support people as they use their own time
and energy to try to better our community.
