Gov't beaurocrats are the last person you want "investing" your money,
absolutely the last.  They NEVER see problem coming.  They are just humans,
and humans typically repeat the same behavior when it comes to investing
money.  Humans are hard-wired a certain way.  Gov't beaurocrats are
definitely not the top 1% of investors/traders.  As it is, mutual fund
managers can barely get that job done (how many really beat the S&P
benchmark?)  Look how many mistakes gov't retirement managers make, surely
you've heard stories about gov't pension funds getting into trouble at the
tops of each market bubble (from stocks, to junk bonds, to bonds, to
commodities, to stocks, to junk bonds, to bonds to commodities... over and
over).

Stocks and bonds go thru boom busts cycles.

The bond market is in a bubble, and has arrived at the doorstep of the bust
cycle.

The gov't is currently considering passing a law for FORCE retirement
accounts be partially investedin USTreasuries.  Why?  Because the smart
people aren't buying them- they are worthless.  Treasury sales haven't been
selling necessitating back-door deals via the central bankers to buy them
(i.e. monetize the debt).  Since the US can't sell them, and the central
bankers can only do so much, the "brilliant" thieves in DC need to find a
VICTIM to sop up the unsold Treasuries --- i.e. retirees and anyone else who
has a 401k, IRA, or SEP, buy forcing them to buy USTs at basically a zero
interest rate of return.  Meanwhile, as the great inflation begins, their
savings will be raped into meaninglessness.

The bond king over at Pimco (Bill Gross) hired Greenspan about 2 years ago.
He's the biggest holder of bonds, and he saw the handwriting on the wall.  He
needed ideas. Once an only bond guy, now he has switched to offering stock
funds.  Say what?  Why?  Well the bond market is the 2nd largest market in
the world (behind the currency market).  It takes a long time to find enough
fools to sell bonds to if you need to get out.  They've been pushing bonds
like crazy.... now that they've about gotten done passing the old maid....
off they are letting people know that the bubble is popping.    In
hyperinflations, bonds get whacked.  Stocks go up because it is one of the
only places you can be and have your own version of a money tree.  It won't
keep up the purchasing power, when things really get cranking but meanwhile
that rotation is in the early phase.  Expect some repatriation of biz back
home also when the dollar starts to fall, as it will
be too expensive for us to mfg overseas and then import.  This will be
heralded as an economic recovery.

Besides, they can't "invest" social security money,,,,, it doesn't even stay
in a checking account for a nano-second before it gets paid out to current
retirees.

I can't remember if I posted this before, if so apologies.  FYI - FDIC is
broke.  They are opening up a huge office in Chicago and hiring.  They are
expecting a wave of midwest bank failures.  So if the FDIC is broke.... who's
covering your deposits?

Even if there was no political opposition, wouldn't there be a problem if the
entire SS trust fund was invested in stocks, bonds etc?  It seems to me that
one fund that large would not be good for the economy?
Interested in opinions on that from some who are more into economics.

For those who want socialism, they think things are great.

There are 2 paths directly ahead.   Socialism/Dictatorship/Military Coup or
an uprising.

Normally in a hyperinflationary depression, the outcome is a dictatorship or
socialism.  However, this is the first time in history the internet has been
around.  More and more people are becoming informed about the enormity of the
financial problems in this government.  Regardless of whether in the
depression only camp or the hyperinflationary depression camp - both camps
understand it is going to be devastating.  79% of the population surveyed
believe economic collapse is around the corner.  The outcome I supposed will
depend on whether the people are sheep like and are led unwittingly to
slaughter (socialism), or if they rise up and go a Gandhi resistance.

I supported Obama in a manner of speaking.

We've got Obama there now.  How's that working for us???

James

One place they should have been disbursing the savings,,,, is to pay down the
debt.  They don't.  They spend the money, and then sell new treasuries to pay
off the maturing treasuries.  The flaw in the USConstitution was allowing
them to borrow money.

TTrue that the government doesn't have any savings but that's primarily
because it would be against the law for them to have any.

Me too - unfortunately most of the people I know say that, but then forget it
10 minutes later....as evidenced by other things they say.

personally, I'm hoping both parties implode!

I can get you the quotes from interviews from folks on the streets back when
he first tossed his hat in the ring. In fact, words similar to that were
used on this list.
