Eh, you know, I am going to retract. Indie Mac was just the one that really threw me lately. The real writing on the wall was when OPEC stopped using the USD. That was the handwriting on the wall.

In terms of the Romans, I wonder, too, at what they point they realized "Oh, crap, we're going to crash this thing" and then I realize, hey, Nero never got it. Maybe people don't.

In contemplating next August, I thought back to one year ago and all that
has happened in the last year.

A year ago the subprime debacle began, though it feels like it's been much
longer (like the run up to the election). Since then, Bear Stearns and
IndyMac have failed (or whatever term you call it). Fannie and Freddie have
been propped up as have countless major banks. Airlines, stores and
restaurants have filed bankruptcy and closed. We have rising unemployment
and falling home values in major metro areas. Food costs for staple items
are up significantly.

It gives one pause....
