Hi,
You need to clearly differentiate between version of the program
and whatever this program does.

Here 0.82 is the version of the freeTDS program (or packet or atom) which is
supplied
and needs to be built in order for you to use it.
4.0/5.0/7.0/8.0 is the version of TDS protocol (hopefully you know what
protocol means).
>From freeTDS point of view - 4.0/5.0 is standard protocol versions to talk

and 7.0/8.0 are standards to talk to MS SQL.

Which version of MS SQL Server you are trying to talk to?
Depending on the answer you will select either 7.0 or 8.0 TDS protocol....
