Hi,

I'm having some problems accessing a Sybase based virtual database. I'm
using Micromuse Netcool ObjectServer, with a fallback setup.
My freetds.org file for these databases looks like this:

[NCOMSPRIM]
host = osserver1
port = 4100
tds version = 5.0

[NCOMSSEC]
host = osserver2
port = 4100
tds version = 5.0

On both hosts is a Netcool ObjectServer (which is a slightly modified
Sybase flavour, so I'm told).
There is a virtual database (or however this is called in Sybase) called
NCOMS.
Is there a way to specify a master and slave host for a specific
database name, eg something like:

[NCOMS]
host = osserver1, osserver2
port = 4100
tds version = 5.0

or perhaps something like

[NCOMS]
host = osserver1
port = 4100
tds version = 5.0

[NCOMS]
host = osserver2
port = 4100
tds version = 5.0

My goal is to use the fallback mechanism. There is a database
synchronisation process in place.
When I try accessing the virtual database from one host (only 1 db
defined in freetds), it fails to connect. Below is my freetds for that
instance.

[NCOMS]
host = osserver1
port = 4100
tds version = 5.0

When I try the NCOMS database with the command line tool provided by
Micromuse, it works (but I assume the tool itself does part of the
switching).
Does anyone have any experience with this?

I also have some problems with an error message returned by perl
(probably caused by DBD::Sybase but I doubt this is relevant to the
problem above):
"panic: sv_setpvn called with negative strlen". This only happens under
specific circumstances.

Any help would be appreciated.

kind regards

Hendrik Van Belleghem
