Right, right, right, right, right, right!

I think what you want is something like:

SELECT e.employeeid, e.firstname, e.hiredate, e.salary, e.dsc
, t.firstname
FROM employees as e
LEFT
JOIN table2 as t
ON e.firstname = t.firstname

That returns all rows from employees and any matching firstnames in
table2, using 13 year old ANSI SQL-92 syntax.

Better queries, less work. Go home early.
