Freddy, your response wasn't very useful.

- Yes, version 8 for MS SQL SERVER 2000, as can be found in many places
in the documentation. But I tried 4.2 and 7 also with no luck.

- "Why you need this?" So the drivers and iodbctest program can find
the files.

- "Read the manual" - Oh, gee, never thought of that. Maybe next time
you could point to a document or section that would be helpful.

Please, Gary, the next time you're tempted to criticize someone on a
public list, I suggest you check the ChangeLog or Authors file. Arguing
with a developer, besides being boorish, is really unlikely to elicit
the help you requested. When you get a terse reply from a developer, it
usually means you haven't done your homework, whether or not you think
so.

Your TDS version should be "8.0", not "8". There's no contrary example
in the User Guide.

The FREETDS environment variable isn't needed unless it disagrees with
configure's PREFIX. Defining it to $HOME is unnecessary, because
FreeTDS looks in $HOME/.freetds.conf.

I think Frediano suggested RTFM because there were so many errors in
your odbc.ini entry. It looks like you grabbed an odbc.ini file from
elsewhere and made changes you thought were needed. It does not look
like you carefully constructed one from scratch based on the
documentation. I don't know what happened, one way or the other, but on
the evidence it seems to me that recommending you re-check the docs is
sound advice.

Nevertheless, even having gotten off to a rocky start, I expect you'll
find people here willing to help you. All I ask is that you reserve
your sarcasm and pride for another forum, the better to keep this one
the friendly place that it is.

Regards,
