Wellspring Forest Farm Participates in

Statewide Maple Weekend March 18 & 19

MECKLENBURG, NY – As part of the New York Maple Producers Association statewide Maple Weekend, Wellspring Forest Farm, located 12 miles West of Ithaca and 12 miles East of Watkins Glen, will be open to the public on Saturday, March 18th and Sunday, March 19th, with a range of events for the whole family. Admission is FREE to all events, except the mushroom workshop on Sunday.

Maple syrup production is a long tradition in the Northeast US, where trees are tapped each year as winter changes to spring. Cold nights and warm days creates sap flow in maple trees, and sap is collected and boiled down to make a thick syrup, delicious on pancakes and waffles, and in a variety of cooked dishes.

On Saturday, March 18th, visitors are welcome from 10am to 4pm, with guided tours of the operation at 11:30am, 12:30pm, 1:30pm, and 2:30pm. Live music will happen all day from Better Weather String Band and Pierce Walsh, along with a farmer’s market featuring local cider from Finger Lakes Cider House, pastured meats from Cayuta Sun Farm, and baked goods, jams and jellies from Ort Family Farms.

Visitors can also enjoy delicious wood-fired pizzas crafted by The Rusty Oven, and learn about wilderness crafts and fire making with Primitive Pursuits!

On Sunday March 19th, events will be more low-key, and the farm will be open from 10am – 4pm for more casual visitors (no scheduled tours).

There will be a workshop from 11am to 1pm called “Introduction to Log-Grown Mushrooms” and for $40 participants can inoculate their own log to take home. Pre-registration is encouraged, as the class may fill up ahead of time: http://store.wellspringforestfarm.com

Throughout the weekend, the farm will have fresh maple syrup from the 2017 season available for purchase, and offer information on our other products and ongoing workshops to educate the public on the methods of producing food and medicine from forest lands.
