Backyard Livestock Raising Classes Feb. 11, 25 and March 11.

Thinking of raising livestock for home food production or to learn more about animal care? If so, learn the basics from local farmer experts.  Cornell Cooperative Extension South Central NY Agriculture Program is hosting three workshops geared for beginners and for people already raising livestock but who want to get pointers from other homesteaders.

Karma Glos, co-owner of Kingbird Farm in Berkshire, will be the instructor for two sessions:  on February 11, the topic will be raising poultry for eggs or meat, and on February 25, the topic is raising a pig.  Karma is highly knowledgeable about animal husbandry and has been raising livestock on their farm for nearly 20 years.  On March 11, tatiana Stanton, Extension Associate in charge of the Cornell Meat Goat and Sheep extension program and farming in Trumansburg, will talk about raising sheep and goats.

All 3 sessions will be held at 4-H Acres on Lower Creek Road, off Rt. 13 North of the Ithaca airport.  Sessions run from 6:30-8:30 PM each day. There is a $5 fee per person or $8 per household for each class that is payable at the door.

Pre-registration is requested- call 607-272-2292 or email mjc72 AT cornell.edu.
