There will be a volunteer work party at Conley Park on Saturday September 21 from 9 am – 12 pm. Conley Park is on the opposite side of Cascadilla Creek from CCE, tucked between the Sciencenter and Neighborhood Pride.

We will be sheet composting some of the existing beds which are mostly just weeds right now, and planting some interesting edible species like bush cherry, chestnut, lemony quince, paw-paw, hardy banana and jujube, as well as more familiar fruit trees like apples, plums etc. The goal is to create a permaculture demonstration with edible plants as a model for other parks in the city, and Cornell Cooperative Extension will also use the park as a teaching and demonstration garden site.

The volunteer session is one of the farm-a-thon sites for Greenstar’s  Food Justice Summit that day, so people can sign up as Farmer-Champions on their website to help raise funds for the Food Justice program, or you can also just show up at the park that morning to help out for a few hours. We will have tools and wheelbarrows available for volunteers.
