"FIGHTING HYDRILLA: Impacts & Choices"
Tuesday, October 4, 7:00-9:00pm
Unitarian Church Annex, 208 East Buffalo Street, Ithaca

The Cayuga Inlet Hydrilla Task Force will hold a free, public information session to cover issues surrounding the recent identification of the invasive aquatic weed Hydrilla verticilla in Cayuga Inlet, and the proposed herbicide treatment to stop its spread.  ”Fighting Hydrilla: Impacts & Choices” will take place on Tuesday October 4, 7:00-9:00 pm at the Unitarian Church Annex, 208 East Buffalo Street (corner Aurora) in Ithaca.

Local presenters will provide general information on Hydrilla; the context of when, where and how it was found in Cayuga Lake; how quickly it may spread and the potential environmental impacts; an overview and discussion of the control methods available; and the recent formation, goals and process of the Cayuga Inlet Task Force.  A question-and-answer period will follow.

Presenters will include:  Roxy Johnston, City of Ithaca Watershed Coordinator; Lars Anderson, Plant Physiologist with USDA-Ag Research Service, specializing in Exotic and Invasive Weeds Research (via remote connection); and Holly Menninger, Coordinator of the NY Invasive Species Research Institute at Cornell University. Facilitated by: Linda Wagenet, Tompkins County Water Resources Council, and Sharon Anderson, Environment Program Leader at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County. The public is invited to attend, ask questions and share concerns.
