Landowner Forum on Gas Drilling Oct 23, 2010: 01:00 PM -What does gas drilling
mean for your land? Join this public forum organized by and for large
landowners to learn more. As gas drilling comes to Tompkins County, large
landowners are influential stakeholders and decision makers in the drilling
process. Learn what to expect from gas drilling on your lands. Presenter Tony
Ingraffea, Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Cornell
University, will discuss the mechanics of rock fracture, technologies of
hydraulic fracturing of Marcellus gas wells, how they drive gas development,
environmental impacts, economics of development, and what it means for your
land. Dr. Ingraffea has extensive experience in the gas drilling industry
research, including with the Gas Research Institute and Schlumberger Inc.

ADDITIONAL EVENTS
Non-timber Income Opportunities For Rural Land- Tuesday, October 26, 2010-
6:30 PM - 8:30 PM. Cornell Cooperative Extension Center, 480 North Main
Street, Canandaigua, NY. Many people in the Finger Lakes and Genesee Valley
have small plots of woodland or are unable to sell their trees for timber.
Cornell Cooperative Extension is offering a special workshop about
"non-timber" forest enterprises such as cultivating American ginseng or
gourmet mushrooms. After raising these forest crops, rural landowners can
sell the products for supplemental income. Presenter Bob Beyfuss, who operates
a forest farm in the Catskill Mountains, will share details about how to plan
for, grow, and sell these crops with an emphasis on botanical products and
log-grown mushrooms. Class is open to the public. Class fee: $15.00 per person
includes the presentations, refreshments, and expert answers to your

2010 Southern Tier Maple School. Saturday, November 6th from 9:30-12:00 at
the Tyrone Fire Hall (State Route 226, Tyrone). Cornell Cooperative Extension
State Maple Specialist - Steve Childs - will present the latest information to
make your sugarbush operation a success in the coming season. Maple producers
of all experience levels are welcome. Some of the topics that will be covered
include: Maple Tubing Systems and Tap Hole Sanitation - The Key to High
Productivity; Maple Marketing; and, Difficulties and Opportunities of
Value-added Maple Products. There is no fee for the workshop, but please
pre-register by calling Cornell Cooperative Extension of Schuyler County at
