Richard

Too many unknowns. All it would take is one real benefactor or patron - and
Paul had several: Lydia in Philippi or an equivalent; Gaius in Corinth;
Philemon who 'owes him' his life as Paul notes.

Ship travel and land travel were certainly possible - one cannot
oversimplify history. It doesn't follow the principle of Occam's razor.

Catch the foxes for us,
the little foxes that make havoc of the vineyards,
for our vineyards are in flower. (Song 2.15)
