In this understanding how do you treat Galatians 2 where Paul states that Titus was a Greek and was not circumcized and Acts 16 where Luke states that Timothy was in fact circumcized?  If they are the same individual, then the scenario would have to run as follows.

Paul goes to Jerusalem, introduces Titus as a Greek, Titus is not circumcized.

Paul later goes on a journey, Titus appears in Lystra, and is renamed Timothy.  It turns out that Paul already knew him!  Paul now wants to have Titus/Timothy work as a Jew, so he's uncircumcized.

Paul uses Titus as an example of Gentiles not needing to be circumcized.  Oops!  Not such a good example, because he turns out to be 1/2 Jewish and is circumcized after all.

Luke got his details wrong about where Timothy was from.

Hey Steve

What is the point?  the traditional understanding of Titus and Timothy being different people makes perfect sense, doesn't it?  Furthermore, if Titus is not circumcised why have him uncircumcised after his name change from Titus to Timothy?   Did you have a typo above which made this issue so convoluted?  I am certainly guilty of such typing errors.

Regards
