Peter Head has said just what I was about to say by referring to 1
Corinthians 16. I would go a bit further and call attention to the way
in which Paul is distancing himself from actual possession of the
Collection money. 1 Cor. 16:3, "I will send those whom you accredit by
letter to carry your gift to Jerusalem." Paul then indicates that he is
not even sure whether he will be going himself.
It seems likely that the Collection went with a group from Corinth,
and that the group picked up further representatives from the other
contributing churches.
The problem in ch. 16 is the suspicion on the part of the
Corinthians that perhaps Paul was using the Collection, in part at
least, to cover his own expenses. Note all the protests in ch. 9 about
his determination to preach the gospel free of charge. At about the
same time, however, the Philippians sent him money (for which he was
grateful), which may well have come to the Corinthians attention. Paul
and money is a thread running through the entire Corinthian corpus.
With best wishes! -- John
