Greetings from gimp.org!

i have written a plug-in for TheGIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program
http://www.gimp.org) that gleans information from an image and from the
creator of the image and embeds it into the image file.

it is all very much at an infant level right now. the goal is for the
plug-in to write an xml file and for me to have a dtd for the
information available to it.

even at this infant stage, it is pretty cool. I had it working like
this photoshop plugin: http://creativecommons.org/technology/xmp-help,
but i wanted more from mine. it launches a localhost from the users
online computer, goes to the creative commons licensing page where the
user steps through the license process and then adds the information
directly to the image. No need for the user to select the license or
the template from the plug-in after doing all this work on the creative
commons web site.

written in python, unfortunately at this present moment the gimp-python
module only works on linux operating system. there has been recent work
to build the binary for windows, i haven't heard of success with this
yet. on the other hand, photoshop only worked briefly on linux and at
that point, not very well. here is a web page with a description of the
plug-in and some screen shots:
http://carol.gimp.org/print/license/gipp.html

information i hope to get from this mail list includes:
1) what is a good partner name
2) what other meta data would be good for my little multi-platform
data file? (what do you want to bet that gimp-python works on mac and
windows before photoshop works on gnu/linux?)

the very next thing i do is to enable the plug-in to process exif
information from photographs. the gipp file needs to be converted from
this debugging style into xml and a dtd written as i mentioned earlier.
i would like the plug-in to remember information about animation frame
stacks, which might include sound files. as well as something that will
import XMP information, thereby freeing it and allowing this information
to be useful in a truly multi-platform environment.

is anyone on the list using linux and willing to try this plug-in? it
is pretty cool. computers are really fun sometimes :)

thanks,
carol
