Thanks Rebecca, you have been the heart and soul of the effort in HK and making it all happen.  I still think and know that you will not be too far away from CC-HK in future :)

One very important person I failed to thank in the last e-mail was Catharina Maracke, the fearless leader of Creative Commons International. Without her patient guidance and good humor, nothing would have been possible.

Dear all,

It has been an amazing year and I have been truly honored to work with the team of volunteers and committed individuals who made it possible to launch the Creative Commons Hong Kong license in October. We were incredibly fortunate that Prof. Lessig and Joi Ito were able to come to the launch - an honor that not all CC jurisdictions enjoy and testimony to your fabulous work and high levels of commitment. Thanks to all of you who contributed to CCHK in a range of ways since August 2007 when the project first got going.

In a late-breaking development, I have received a research grant to work on a book that I have been wanting to write for awhile, but have not had the time due to so many other commitments.  Therefore I will be taking a year-long full-time leave from the JMSC beginning February 1st, 2009. Before then I will be taking all my un-used vacation leave for most of January. As I will be out of Hong Kong for most of 2009 and my funders expect me to focus full-time on the book, it no longer makes sense for me to act as CCHK public lead. So I am stepping aside effective immediately.

Fortunately Prof. Ying Chan, director of CCHK's host institution, the Journalism and Media Studies Centre, and Pindar Wong, who served as the hardworking chairman of our preparatory executive committee over the past year, have agreed to share the role of Public Lead from now on. With their Hong Kong roots and wide-ranging connections, and their passion about promoting CC, they are the perfect team to lead CCHK in the post-launch phase.

Yahong Li and Alice Lee of the Hong Kong University Faculty of Law, who worked so hard on porting the CC license, will remain as Legal Leads. Of course, Haggen So continues in his essential role as Research Associate/Project manager for CCHK.

We have an extremely strong team in place surrounded by an enthusiastic community. I'm certain that CCHK will have a bright future. I will certainly remain on the cchk e-mail list and remain an enthusiastic supporter of both CCHK and the global CC movement.

Finally, I would like to extend my thanks to other CC leads throughout the Asia-Pacific region who have been so supportive and helpful. Particularly Wang Chunyan of CC China Mainland and Chuang Tyng-Ruey of CCTW, whose jurisdictions share a common written language with ours. We had the benefit of learning from and building upon the experiences of those who launched before us. It has been an honor to get to know them and I look forward to remaining in touch in my less-official capacity.

Happy holidays to all of you!

All the best,
Rebecca
