Check this out, Second Life is turning over the
IP rights to their users. Also, Julian Dibbell
wrote a lot about this: My Tiny Life: Crime and
Passion in a Virtual World .Henry Holt, 1999.

I haven't read this, but Julian told us a great
story: Apparently US based folks have hired
people in in Mexico to play these games all day
to collect and create as many game assets as
possible. The US folks would then sell the
assets on Ebay. A virtual sweatshop.
