>>>In effect, anything digital is really up for grabs --whether you
put it on the web, on a cd or dvd. It does not matter. There is always some
hacker with a new trick that can be at the ready to snif and swipe either
your content or your code.

It's true but it's not a problem.. let them copy you
Art is not a Louis Vuitton Murakami Bag..
<img src="images/icons/icon12.gif" alt=";)" border=0 align='absmiddle'>
And you know...people always made also fake "paper money"
and fake Fontana and Wharol works...

&gt;&gt;&gt; and VOILA! a one-of-a-kind work of art by Mark Napier. Now
notice I said one-of-a-kind but not authentic.

That's the point

&gt;&gt;&gt; In collaborative interactivity the user is an intrinsic part of
the artwork. The artwork does not exist unless someone uses the software or
interacts with the interface.

It's true but it could be also a limitation.. I mean.. i think about netart
also as "designing the pipe" (i'm quoting a previous post by Donato Mancini),
designing the network... then if people don't come in through it.. it's
another story... it's more about PR - marketing...
But i understand that they probably are 2 faces of the same coin ...

&gt;&gt;&gt; I mean, it is not Mark Napier who created the end results, it
was the user.

Yes and " it was the user who created the end results" is the basis of
netart... but we have not to forget (in my mind the most important thing)
that Napier designed the set of rules.. designed the network.. which i think
it's a keyrole issue in doing netart.

&gt;&gt;&gt; Authenticity is what would make it valuable.

Absolutely and that's the reson why i think we cannot "copy and paste" CC
licenses in artworld.. because this "Authenticity is what would make it
valuable" for many reasons is only a paradigm in art and a nonsense in
music-video business.

yours truly,
carlo
