I asked him to compile dropbear small ssh program with uclibc.

We already have a ssh client for BasicLinux.
It's 287kb and works on both BL3 and BL2.

A while back I tried compiling the dropbear
client for BL3. It was about half the size
of our current client but it didn't work with
some of the sites I tried.

Which version? The latest is 0.49 23 Feb 2007. 1.5MB bz2. Lots of fixes since Oct 2002. Made in Australia.

110K uclibc-static with minimal options. I compiled glibc-2.2.5 dynamic with defaults. 126K stripped dropbear (server?), 117K dbclient, 21K scp. I did not compile the dropbearkey or the convertor from openssh format. /usr/local/sbin/dropbear /usr/local/bin/dbclient. scp is a standalone from openssh and did not get installed. It is supposed to be more secure than plain ftp (or ftpput and ftpget?).

dbclient keesan AT freeshell.org worked (NetBSD)

Worked at grex.org (OpenBSD) and a univ site with SunOS and
a Slackware 10.2 computer (which does not ask about security like the others do at first time of connection, yes/no).

Do you want to try it again at your sites?

Sindi

Steven
