If you look in /var/eznet you'll see eznet.conf (which is usually where
the eznet writes the info needed to contact your ISP). In that file you
may have to put a special init string. Also, look at transcript.0 (in the
same directory) that appears to be a log of exactly what is done when
eznet/pppd runs. There are a few other files in that directory as well
that may help track down the problem.

If that doesn't help, then we'd have to find out exactly what eznet and
pppd are doing from their binary files. They should be in source format
somewhere on the net, and you appear to have more experience looking
through source files than I do. If an init string doesn't work in
eznet.conf (have you tried that yet?), then I think it may be beyond my
experience at the moment. I'll still offer advice if I have any to offer,
but I may have to defer to someone with more experience getting modems
working in linux from here on out (since I haven't set one up myself in
linux with haveing all winmodems).
