Something more intuitive sounds good to me.

All B-Hebrewers,

I've been thinking for a long time that the transliteration guideline should
be changed to something more intuitive. The one that is posted on the web,
http://www.ibiblio.org/bhebrew/, is unnecessarily complex & un-human, and
that is a shame because the Hebrew consonants mostly map intuitively to
English.

I like Lloyd's scheme better than the one that is there, but I hope we have
a transliteration scheme that maps unambiguously to the Hebrew letters, at
least the consonants. i.e. Lloyd uses "s" to represent both samek and sin.

I propose, use UPPERCASE letters to represent the Hebrew consonants, and use
lower case for vowels or for the 2nd letter to represent a consonant blend.

Here is a copy of the current guideline with my proposed changes:

Transcription Guidelines
Officially, the B-Hebrew forum transcribes Hebrew in our posts using the
Michigan-Claremont-Westminster scheme(MCW) as shown below. In practice,
however, the adherence of the list members to the MCW is rather relaxed, so
we also assume that members have Hebrew Bibles handy for reference. When an
alphabetic sequence is particularly critical to a discussion, members may
want to write out the sequence in words, e.g., "The Hebrew spelling of
_Adam_ is aleph-qamets-dalet-qamets-mem."

Consonants
Aleph ) or ' - One of these choices is bad enough. Why give 2?. Propose A
Beth B
Gimel G
Daleth D
Heh H
Waw W - Propose use W for the consonant, use O for the full holem and
use U for the shuruk
Zayin Z
Cheth X - Propose Ch
Teth + - Propose Th
Yod Y
Kaph K
Lamedh L
Mem M
Nun N
Samek S - Sin seems to be the more common letter, so I think Samek
should suffer the un-intuitiveness. Propose $
Pe P
Ayin ( or ` - Propose Ay
Tsade C - Propose Ts
Qoph Q
Resh R
Sin & - Propose S
Shin $ - Propose Sh
Tav T

Vowels
Patah A - Propose a
Qamets F - propose +
Segol E - propose e
Tsere " - propose ay
Hireq I - propose i
Holem O - propose o for holem without the waw
Qamets Chatuf F - propose +
Qibbuts U - propose u
Shureq W - propose U
Shewa :
Hatef Patah :A - propose :a
Hatef Segol :E - propose :e
Hatef Qamets :F - propose :+

And I saw: and behold, a black horse, and he that sat upon it having a
balance in his hand. And I heard as a voice in the midst of the four living
creatures saying, A quart of wheat for a day's wages, and three quarts of
barley for a day's wages: and do not injure the oil and the wine. (Rev
6:5b-6)
The chariot in which are the black horses goes forth into the land of the
north. (Zech 6:6a)
