2 Sam 22:24 And I was perfect to Him and I kept myself from my iniquity.

וָאֶהְיֶה תָמִים לֹו וָאֶשְׁתַּמְּרָה מֵעֲוֹנִֽי׃

The same verse is in Psalm 18:24, but the verb “and I kept myself” does not
have the heh at the end.

John Joseph Owens’ “Analytical Key to the OT” says that the verb in 2 Sam
22:24 is voluntative.he

I can’t find in the book what Owens means by the “.he”.

Does it mean that the verb actually means “and I would keep myself” due to
the heh at the end? Or does it just mean the heh at the end is optional? Or
might the “.he” have nothing to do with the letter heh?

I can’t find any translation that translates the verb in Ps 18:24
differently than in 2 Sam 22:24.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

-Steve Miller

He sent from above, He took me.

And He drew me from waters great.

>From my strong foes delivered me,

and from those that viewed me with hate
for they were mightier than me.
They confronted me in the day
of my extreme calamity,
but the Lord, He became my stay. (Psalm 18:16-18)
