Jim:

How many times have you read Tanakh in Hebrew? I mean cover
to cover. Have you memorized any chapters? There are people
who may not have academic degrees, but who have studied as
much as those who have those degrees.

One of the problems with this field is that there are too
many conclusions that are more philosophically based than
strictly linguisticly. As a result, people react according
their philosophic biases.

As for the lazy people, ...
