Dear Yigal:

I read “Nirgan” as a derivation of “ragan” which is used twice in Deuteronomy
1:27 and Psalm 106:25 referring to a complaining, murmuring in the ear and
not a loud demonstration. As such, it is a synonym of DBH “evil report,
defamation” though quietly spoken as in HGH “to mutter”.

NRGN is found four times in Proverbs: 16:28, 18:8, 26:20, 22 and each time it
seems to refer to the person who is doing the murmuring, complaining.

Incidentally, MTLHMYM also occurs in Proverbs 26:22, again in connection with
NRGN.

Yours, Karl W. Randolph.
