Tony

Recently in Australia the ABC presented a four hour documentary on the
origin of satan. The documentary showed that belief in a supernatural being
was not held by the Hebrews until they returned from captivity around 500
BC.

The definite article as in Job indicates that this was a definite adversary
not necessarily a supenatural one. When the whole subject is examined from
the point of view of Scripture Job indicates in the last chapters that it
was God who afflicted him not the adversary.

To say that satan was a fallen angel is not supported by Scripture. Neither
Isaiah 14 or Ezekiel 28 support this belief in any way whatsoever. The word
satan does not appear in and chapter in either book and the very structure
of Revelation 12 when examined carefully gives no support to this view.
