THEME
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The joint conference theme is **FROM PERSONAL COMPUTERS TO FOLK
COMPUTING**, which explicitly evokes not only the speedy evolution of
context in the users experience with computers (from the individual to the
collective and societal), but also a leap in the knowledge level required
from users to take full advantage of widely available resources in Web 2.0
(from knowing about computers to knowing about computing). In the
not-so-distant past, full citizenship depended on being literate with
Maths and Language in order to use numbers and words efficiently to
achieve one's individual and collective goals in society. Now, this
depends more and more on being literate with Computers, and using programs
to express and achieve our social and civil goals, with the Internet
enabling new forms for communities and societies.

The conference organizers invite the Brazilian, the Latin American and the
International HCI communities to discuss the role of HCI researchers and
practitioners in developing interactive technologies that truly promote
Computing Literacy. We are interested in discussing the users' needs,
expectations, experiences and possibilities while using computers and
computing to participate fully in social and civil activities supported by
computer systems. In the context of Latin America, where this conference
takes place, we are especially interested in discussing how HCI can
promote and bring about increased levels of social development.

Contributions to the conference program should address one of the
following non-exclusive aspects of moving FROM PERSONAL COMPUTERS TO FOLK
COMPUTING:

•Accessibility and therapeutic uses of interaction
•Adaptive, adaptable, intelligent user interfaces
•Affective computing
•Augmented reality
•Computational literacy
•Context-aware interaction
•Effects of aging on interacting with computers
•End user programming and development
•Ergonomics
•HCI and citizenship
•HCI design - methods, tools and perspectives
•HCI education
•HCI evaluation - methods, tools and perspectives
•HCI impacts on society: social life, health, education, transportation,
sports, environment, etc.
•HCI theories and theoretical approaches
•Human-robot interaction
•Integrating HCI and Software Engineering
•Interacting with information visualizations
•Interacting with new devices
•Interaction and information processing
•Interfaces for mobile and ambient systems
•Internationalization and cultural aspects of HCI
•Iteraction and entertainment
•Legal issues in HCI
•Multimodal interfaces
•Natural user interfaces
•Organic user interfaces
•Social interaction (virtual and online communities)
•Speech interfaces
•Tactile interfaces
•Task ad user analysis
•Usable privacy and security tools
