I'm in the same boat with my new Thinkpad. It's got an intel adaptor
in it and no GEM goodness.

The drm spell source has the source files for the i195 card, however I
don't know how to build them. I haven't really looked into it.

dkowis at nanotop:~$ gaze version mesalib xf86-video-intel libdrm dri2proto linux
Grimoire Section Spell Grimoire Version Installed Version
-------- ------- ----- ---------------- -----------------
test graphics-libs mesalib 7.3 7.3
test xorg-driver xf86-video-intel 2.6.1 2.6.1
test libs libdrm 2.4.3 2.4.3
test xorg-proto dri2proto 1.99.3 1.99.3
test kernels linux 2.6.28.1 2.6.28.1

No GEM goodness. :(
