i took a similar but diferent approach with a book i published
(completely different subject and in german, but also a self-help book
that really makes a difference in a lot of peoples lives, according to
the ample feedback we get). i offer the first half of the book for
free on the web. call it an extensive sample, so you know what you
buy. and since it is a very practical self help book with lots of
techniques, etc., that are dispersed throughout the book, it is not
just a teaser but real value. especially since the introduction gives
away all the theoretical information, the other 7 chapters (3 of which
are publicly available on the web together with the intro) going into
the practical detail, it is not a climax book like a crime and
suspense thing, that is worthless without the end.
so far we have sold way beyond 25000 copies, and it is still going
strong (first published 2003). and since it is not cheap (21,50 euros)
it provides meaninful income - in spite or maybe because of giving
away half of it for free. i can imagine that a similar strategy could
work for tagari.
best,
georg
