Hi Misha Gale-Sinex ,
It seems clear all around that the bee's immune system is the key to
CCD. I have pointed out the well reported synergism between pesticides
and the infection with Nosema and related fungal parasites in insects
. Work with a number of insects shows that the insect immune system
has evolved to a large degree to respond to fungal parasites.
Unfortunately, the work on synergism has not yet been reported in the
honey bee. Some reports say that Nosema is present in both CCD and
normal colonies , while other studies claim that neonicotinoid seed
treatment does not effect the honey bee even though the seed treatment
delivers the pesticide to the flower. What is missing is reports on
pesticides such as the neonicotinoids or Bt and the presence of Nosema
or other fungal parasites and the synergism between them. . Such reports
are needed!
I am taking the liberty of including a link to a video o an interview I
did in June this year.
sincerely, prof. joe cummins
