There is quite a range in traits - size, ripening time, astringency,
productivity. A row of seedlings from a Romanian breeding program
varies a lot in productivity, but size is all on the small side. I've
got some own rooted cuttings from Yugoslavian material with much larger
fruit. Rooting seems to be a matter of getting half-hardened wood at
just the right stage. Root them under mist. If you're lucky, 20% of
them root. No idea how hardy any of the seedlings would be.

I've never sampled any of the selected varieties. Are there
noticeable improvements in taste, size & astringency? Any that would
be hardy here in Wisconsin? & how true to seed are C. mas?
