[NAFEX] persimmons - How to ripen them.

An easier way to ripen an astringent persimmon is to put it in a plastic bag
with an apple.  The apple releases ethylene and in a few days the persimmon
is ripe.  I get the impression that red apples work better than green ones.
Maybe the green ones stay green because they don't release ethylene?

I can't remember where I read about this trick.  I've been using it for
years.
