Dear Robert,

I think it will be very good to have an article on Wineberry ion Fruitipedia. Can you do it. It does not have to be SCHOLARLY PIECE of writing. Just an introductory article like many on such minor fruits in Fruitipedia.

So please DO write and send one.

If ANY OTHER MEMBER can do it, he is also welcome.

Thanks,

Dr. Chiranjit Parmar

I've grown wineberries from plants I bought from Edible Landscaping. There wasn't a named variety. The fruit are prettier than raspberries and taste a bit different - tart until they are fully ripe. In my garden, it spreads a little but isn't really a pest, and I occasionally get seedlings popping up here or there. The seedlings seem pretty much identical to the parent, so it may already be inbred. I get a some winter damage in my location.

Anyone in the eastern half of our continent have any experience growing wineberry (Rubus phoenicolasius)? Aside from being delicious, I know it is used in raspberry breeding. Are there any cultivars available? Anyone ever started a planting from seed? Other than the responsibility of keeping the planting from running wild and creating more problems for natives, is the there any reason to reconsider planting it on our farm? (Pest, disease, marketing or other issues). For now, I'm off to pick as many as I can reach from amongst the poison ivy at the edge of the field!
