[NAFEX] Are brambles or ribes good fruits for me to try growing?

This year the only fruit that made it through our early warm up/freeze are my gooseberries and currants. These 2 and 3 year old plants are producing their first significant fruits. I have several varieties of gooseberries and some (Invicta) are producing a lot of fruit, while others just a few (Poormans). I enjoy them right off the bush, though my DH finds them to tart for his taste.
Black currants...I have Titania and Ben Sarek. I like them both dead ripe, right off the bush. Red currants are very tart, but I like them too, so maybe I have weird tastebuds or something :)
I am getting some leaf loss on the gooseberries with the heat. They did have quite a bit of shade early on from some fast growing Canadian thistle (which I harvest just before they go to seed to feed my goats). I will be mulching the gooseberries heavily to see if that helps keep the roots cooler.
As to raspberries, etc., mine died back to the ground over the winter, but are all coming on with new sprouts. I don't think we'll get any harvest this year, but they are persistant, which I appreciate in a fruiting plant! My few blackberry plants all died off.
I'm in SE Ohio Zone 5-6 (depending on what map you look at). We've been very hot and dry this year.
I'm very much a fancier of plants that are really hardy and need little care. So far I'm pretty happy with the gooseberries, currants, and raspberries (since they are coming back on their own).
