I've managed to find an excellent reference through Ryan Athler
(r.athler at pacbell.net) who suggested the Clammy(P.heterophylla) and
Sticky Ground cherries have similar characteristics to the Husk
Cherry, which both have frost-resistent properties and should grow
well in your area.
