[NAFEX] Surround Alternatives

Dear Ned and Faye Rahn,
I just used the last of my Surround today. I have been looking for resources. I bought my product from the east coast--the price was OK--but the shipping to Wisconsin is killing me! I bought 2-25 lb bags--that lasted me for 1 1/2 years. If your shrimp bait powder is the same--it would be less than 1/2 the price--still the shipping problem. I guess anyway to cut a corner. Let us NAFEXers know if you think the products are similar--my impression is 1-2 microns particle size.

Most sincerely.

Here on the SC coast we are allowed to bait shrimp, which concentrates the shrimp around the bait. The shrimp are then caught with a cast net. The shrimp bait is often made with a mixture of fish meal and a very fine bagged clay, both of which are sold by the local feed stores. The clay is so fine that it can flow like a liquid while dry. It is sold in large bags (I believe 50# bags) for around $10 per bag - more or less. I suspect it may be Kaolin clay, but I am not sure. I will look into it further.
