Hi Tom,

Tom you may get a lot of mail from other fruit growers.  So this is my answer to your question.I grow espalier trees but thay are all in the ground.  If I were to talk a pot grown tree out of the pot.  I would just break up the roots the best I could, by taking an ax to the root system and try to break up the circular growing of the roots.   It then can either be repotted or planted.  I would think the tree will be in great shock after you cut the roots.  Sometimes fruit trees take some time to come back to normal when roots are disturbed.
I am located in the Pacific North West in Washington state.  Spring is here.  Trees are almost in bloom, weather is getting warmer and the bees are flying too.
