[Homestead] Companion planting--or not

I agree. Just because they are not compatible doesn't mean that one
will die. You would lose more yield from moving something than from
leaving it in place. I just use the companion thing as a guideline.
I've planted fennel in my herb bed, 3 different kinds, in fact. Fennel
doesn't get along with anything, but what am I supposed to do, plant it
in the middle of the pasture? Nope, it is right next to other herbs and
flowers. We will see. I think of the companion planting scheme like a
garnish for food. You can eat the dish without the garnish, but a
garnish makes things more interesting, more appealing-it's the icing on
the cake. Maybe borage attracts the proper pollinators for tomatoes,
but the tomatoes will grow with or without borage and basil underfoot.
Knowwhadimean?
