THE GREAT BAND SWAP RETURNS AT THE PINHOOK

On the first weekend in December, twelve of the Triangle's most
unique and innovative bands will take over the stage at The Pinhook
for three glorious days of local music. But there's a catch: they
have to learn and perform music by their fellow musicians. This is
     The Great Band Swap.

The Great Band Swap has its roots in a 2007 concert

<http://www.indyweek.com/indyweek/the-great-band-swap/Content?oid=1205427>
that treated fans to local musicians covering each other's songs.
The 2010 edition has morphed into a bona fide festival in support of
     Friends With Benefits

the local non-profit organization set up by Shayne and Rebecca Miel
to provide affordable health care options for musicians and their
     families.

Here's how it works. Three nights of music, four bands each night.
Every band must perform at least one song by each of the other bands
on their particular bill. The lineups are purposefully diverse,
which will make for some genre (and mind) bending collaborations.

Thursday December 2nd features the anthemic punk rock of Pink Flag,
the soulful, old-school pop of Brett Harris, the classic-rock hooks
of The Pneurotics, and the shambolic majesty of Dry Heathens. The
WXDU DJ team will spin records.

On Friday December 3rd, local legend Billy Sugarfix leads the way
with his whipsmart catalog of charming, confessional pop. Juan
Huevos brings ebullient homemade hip-hop, and Durham duo Joy In Red
squares off with Raleigh art-garage outfit Antibubbles. DJ sets will
     be provided by WXYC

Saturday December 4th is thw wildest bill, hitting most of the genre
extremes in indie rock. Cassis Orange provides distilled electro-pop
with a subtle Japanese edge. Mosadi Music is hard-edged, political
hip-hop with searingly tight live instrumentation. HOG takes
heavy-metal and stretches into psychedelic dirges and molten, fleet
fingered hooks. And Embarassing Fruits channels the finest guitar
rock of the past 20 years, mixed with lyrics about girls, partying,
and small-town ennui. The WKNC crew will spin records.

And they will all be playing each other's songs.

The Great Band Swap is in support of an excellent cause, and is
indicative of the local spirit of collaboration, humor, and mutual
     respect.
