Great project. I have a few small comments based on the HTML provided for
copying an image such as
http://ookaboo.com/o/pictures/picture/26068781/Reflective_Balls_of_Brussels_Atomium
- doesn't include license notice
- and doesn't include link to copyright info for work, which would be
http://www.flickr.com/photos/redvers/3732760690/
- RDFa annotation of same would be nice
And a few general ones
- An ookaboo-specific favicon would be nice
- Google Photos/Picasa now has a substantial number of CC-licensed photos,
would guess growing much faster than Flickr, might be a good source usable
in same way Flickr is
- Europeana might be another good source of images
- Fotopedia is in some ways a similar project. Too bad (AFAICT) data from
that site isn't also BY-SA, permitting sharing across the projects
- http://about.ookaboo.com/a/about/what_is_ookaboo says Wikimedia allows
images under fair use; that's not true for Wikimedia Commons, and only true
case-by-case for certain language Wikipedias/other projects
- A search parameter that allows filtering out ND images would be nice for
finding images for use on Wikimedia projects and for possibly adding Ookaboo
to search.creativecommons.org (I realize it is possible to filter out ND
images on the client if one is using your API rather than the plain old web
site interface)
And two questions
- Do you keep a copy of the hosting page content -- eg content at
http://www.flickr.com/photos/redvers/3732760690/ -- for images in the
ookaboo database? If yes, this would make using ookaboo even more attractive
as a place to find images to use, addressing possibility of source image
license provenance disappearing (eg Flickr pro acct lapses, user changes
license offered, Yahoo shuts down another service, etc)?
- Is the ookaboo database or some useful subset of properties available as a
downloadable dump?
