My presentation is on ways in which school librarians can alleviate
the pressures of copyright. I'm going to be specifically talking
about Creative Commons and showing resources that librarians can use
with students (flickr, freesound, ccmixter, etc...) I would like to
give some background on the copyleft movement and also include some
free (as in speech) software.

I work in a high school library and I'm constantly facing copyright
issues. Even with fair use I find that the content limit placed on
copyrighted materials is not always sufficient to produce a quality
product. A great example is when students are putting together a
video and they want to use one song. The problem arises when the
project is 2 minutes long but according to the fair use guidelines
you can only use up to 10% but not more than 30 seconds from a single
work. I've been steering kids to ccMixter to find music to use so
that they don't have to worry about this issue.
