Do you have any non-pnp ISA cards in the computer?  If not, everything 
should be automatic.  I have a jumpered ISA modem (IRQ3) , and a jumpered 
MGA/Parport card (IRQ 7) and even one jumpered SB sound card (IRQ 5).
PCI cards are always pnp.

Windows likes to assign all sound cards as IRQ 10.  You can probably 
change this manually to IRQ5 in Windows now and have it keep working.

In BL and/or in DSL?  The latter is harder to figure out because it is 
bigger.  Therefore your question turned out to be BL-relevant.

There is an aumix for volume control if your speakers don't have that.
