Shoshannah - this, too, may interest you. You probably heard the claim that
European Jews are actually descendants of the Khazars. Well, since Eastern
European Jews spoke the German-derived Yiddish they must have lived in and then
migrated from West (German lands) to East (Poland). Had they been Khazars,
their migration would have been East to West and they would have spoken a
Turkic language or dialect with some Hebrew admixture. So the identification of
European Jews with Khazars is easily refuted via language.
