Introducing TarHeel Linux - a secured desktop Linux distribution
tailored for UNC. Installation is extremely quick and easy on recent
CCI computers or compatible Intel-based hardware. It comes with a large
and ever-growing repository of Open Source software built specifically
with the UNC research community in mind. This distribution uses UNC
Onyen ids and passwords, and automatically does nightly software updates
and patches, along with basic integrity scans. There is a Wiki available
for TarHeel Linux administrators, filled with documentation on best
practices and tips: http://tarheellinux.unc.edu. Some content on the
Wiki is restricted to people who administer TarHeel Linux hosts, but
much of it is public.
