Business for Sustainable Landscapes Action Agenda in motion following
Bellagio Center meeting
[image: Group photo of global leaders gathered at the Bellagio Retreat
Center to discuss sustainable landscapes.]
Back in June of this year a group of 22 global leaders from the
agribusiness and food industry, governmental agencies, and civil society
came together at the Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Retreat Center in
northern Italy to explore the intersection of sustainable landscapes and
supply chains. The meeting was organized by EcoAgriculture Partners, IUCN,
Sustainable Food Lab and SAI Platform. Leaders of very diverse
organizations shared their experience of initiatives around the world to
jointly manage natural resources, increase opportunities for smallholder
farmers, and integrate rural development with the protection of freshwater
and biodiversity.
Despite the differing motivations and goals for collaboration, participants
agreed on the importance of landscape partnerships and the need for better
messaging and greater engagement of businesses and governments, more
effective public and private finance mechanisms, and improved learning and
tools. See the meeting's key messages brief below.

Over the next few months we want to share with you additional insights
from BSL partnerships around the world through a series of updates
concluding with the unveiling of the BSL Action Agenda. We hope you will
take the time to explore the case studies and lessons learned and think
about their application in your own operations.
