The Tester amendment to S510 DOES NOT automatically protect small
sustainable farms. Farms have to apply for the exemption, and the
application process can be as burdensome as the paperwork for
non-exempt farms! I do not have space to describe everything that the
application must contain, but the FDA can deny it if they do not
approve of the farm products. Say goodbye to raw dairy! What kind of
exemption is that?
By a kind of miracle, S510 is stalled (the bill includes new taxes
[called fees], which only the House can propose, under the
Constitution). It is still important to contact our representatives
and ask them to reject S510. There is hope that this abomination can
be stopped!
If stopped this is, of course, good news for animal factories,
Monsanto, ADM and etc., which was likely the result they aimed for.
