Interested to hear people's input on permaculture solutions for the Gulf oil spill. It's a real real mess!
The dispersant is said to be as polluting as the crude oil.
Possible solutions:
Massive amounts of activated compost tea dropped onto the coastline and
marshland from the types of planes used for fighting forest fires.
Large ships with open compartments could be used for brewing the ACT
then delivering it to the coast, spraying it over land with large fire
hoses. There are microbes that will eat the oil.
Kevin Topek: you mentioned this technology some time in the past.
A combination of clean tanker ships and firefighting boats could deliver
the ACT to the beaches and marshes. It would take time to make the ACT
but the raw materials are readily accessable and the technology is
adequately developed. It could be used as soon as the beneficial microbe
count has peaked. It would be better to use it later than not at all.
This is just a thought; I do not know if this solution is practical or not.
Put the equipment together
Find the starter material
Add the raw ingredients
Let it brew
Load into delivery equipment and apply
Get Paul Stamets involved to see if a fungal purification system can be
used to degrade the oil.
